The Art Of War

  • Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.

Although many will tell you not to interpret the translation too literally there is no doubt much logic is to be found in this statement.

I must their fore ask; Why is Obama telling Putin what the sanctions will be?

We should not be surprised to read then that the financial markets were on high alert last night over the Ukraine crisis amid speculation that the Kremlin had pulled its vast US treasury bill holdings out of New York.

Reports are that 4% or $100bn has been pulled from the US financial system and it seems it is the very Russian billionaires the Americans were threatening who have moved their money.

Update; Monday 17th March.

It would seem the Americans had not given their Russian friends enough time to get their money out of the country. The vote in the Crimea Referendum closed 24 hours ago.

Phase 3 of UN sanctions was threatened if the vote went ahead. I would have expected the UN to have concocted their formula for sanctions ready to deploy but no! They were meeting this morning at 8:30 and news is… nothing.

As a civilised European I feel I owe an apology to the Ukrainian people. I apologise to all Ukrainian people on behalf of all Europeans, we have let you down and it seems none of the people who could do something have any intention of doing anything.
